More Information on the Blackboard 9.1 Upgrade >>
Welcome to the Blackboard Support Group at John Jay, a joint, collaborative effort from the Office of Distance Education and Instructional Technology Support Services (ITSS). Blackboard is a popular and easy-to-use course management system that allows instructors to develop online sections of their courses and provide their students with access to instructional materials, communication tools, online assessments, and other resources. Blackboard Courses may serve as an online component of a traditional in-person class or serve as a “meeting space” for students enrolled in hybrid and online courses.
Popular features in Blackboard include areas to post downloadable documents including a syllabus, articles, and other handouts; a tool for posting, receiving, and grading assignments; a built-in test and survey creation tool; an electronic grade book; and a threaded discussion forum. All of these features can be customized by the instructor to fit his or her needs in a course, making it easy to develop and maintain an online course site.
For more information, please browse our tutorials on this site, categorized for Faculty and Students. We also offer regularly scheduled workshops throughout the year and can offer support one-on-one or remote support.
